green and black damselfly on leaf

Sitting in nature on a recent summer morning, with this beauty swirling around me. I offered aloud a “good morning” and an “I appreciate you,” as I was overcome with joy. Watching her fluttering, rhythmic movements together with her mate. What happened next, I was not prepared for, yet I had hoped for silently in my heart. I wanted to be closer to her. Closer to her energy. Vibrating at her frequency. I felt those feelings and then…

She. Landed. On. Me. She landed on my right upper arm softly and assuredly. Purposefully. And, she stayed, for at least a whole minute. Of course, this moment wasn’t captured on a device. It needed to be felt with the heart.

Dragonflies symbolize transformation and spiritual growth. She sought me out in my solitude amidst the trees, reminding me that even in our solitude, we are never alone. We are all connected. In a season of summer characterized by socializing and celebrating often outdoors, this is an apt time to recognize how our connections with self, others, and nature are all designed to be mutually sustaining.

I sought nature out that morning. And, nature sought me in return. There was an exchange of energy and, perhaps, emotion. There was a moment that I needed to feel into in this season of my life. I know I am not alone in this, so I offer to you:

What moments do you need to feel into in this fiery summer season of life?

  • Maybe, you have basic needs that deserve a little extra attention. Think, hydration, nutritious and nourishing foods.
  • Maybe, you have physical needs such as movement that connects the mind and body (e.g.- walking, yoga, dancing).
  • Maybe, you have emotional needs that deserve some TLC. Consider boundaries, needs, and expectations in relationships.
  • Maybe, you have spiritual needs that are asking patiently for your attention (e.g.- relationship to self, others, nature, or a higher power).

All of these domains are vital to holistic well-being. Harmony is the key. Start tuning into these aspects and noticing what needs nurturing care. Take time for your soul to fill. Be open and curious. Lead with your heart. Let what you need, land.
